- oyce M. Mauro, 87, of Niagara Falls, NY, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 21, 2019 at her residence surrounded by her loving family while under the care of Niagara Hospice. Born in Niagara Falls, she was the daughter of the late Joseph D. and Violet I. (Coleman) Augustino.
Joyce attended local schools including Trott Vocational High School, Kelly’s Business Institute and Niagara County Community College.
Joyce married her beloved husband, Ralph A. Mauro, on February 14, 1953 at St. Joseph Church. Mr. Mauro predeceased her on January 25, 1973. She was employed as a hostess for many years at John’s Flaming Hearth, Schraff’s and Hotel Niagara. She also worked in the deli department and in customer services at Tops International in Niagara Falls until her retirement in 2008.
Joyce was a longtime member of the American Legion Auxiliary in North Tonawanda and the Bergholz Ladies Auxillary. She enjoyed going out for dinner with family and friends, and especially enjoyed spending time with her family.
Mrs. Mauro is survived by her children, Shawn (Patrick) Nigh, Jeri Lynn (George) Bartha, Ralph R. Mauro, and was predeceased by one son, Anthony “Butch” J. Mauro. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Erica (Walker Michaud) Carbone, Joseph (Brittany) Nigh, Jamie (Nick) Stevens, Vincent (fiance Michaela Kowalick) Bartha, Marisa, Toni-Marie and Anthony Mauro; her great-grandchildren, Isabella Domenique, Lucia Savannah, Jaxson Wade and Allina Marie; her brother, Michael H. “Bud” (Jean) Augustino, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. Joyce was also predeceased by her sister, Linda Augustino-Rafferty.
Joyce’s Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, April 25th at Noon in St. Vincent De Paul Parish at Prince of Peace Church, 1055 N. Military Road, Niagara Falls, NY. Interment in Gate of Heaven Cemetery will be held at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial offerings may be made to Niagara Hospice Inc. 4675 Sunset Drive, Lockport, NY, 14094.
