Mr. and Mrs. Fred Newman,
239 Grove St., celebrated
their 50th wedding
anniversary at a d i n n er
party at 2:30 p.m. Saturday
in the Colonial Room of Isle
View restaurant.
A three tiered wedding cake,
golden colored tapers and flowers
adorned the "bride's" table for
the anniversary event. Mrs.
Newman wore a gift corsage of
yellow roses. Approximately 60
guests attended.
Mr. Newman and the former
Elizabeth Awaldt of Tonawanda
were married Jan. 16, in the
Baptist parsonage, Tonawanda.
After their marriage they moved
into the Grove St. home they still
occupy.
Mrs. Newman was born in Germany
and. came to Tonawanda
with her family when she was
three years old. Mr. Newman is a
native of Buffalo.
For many years, Mr. Newman
worked at the Ives Ice and Coal
Co. and later was employed by
the Robert Gair Co. He retired
in 1952. The couple has no children.
Mr. Newman is 83 years old and
his wife is 71. Both are in excellent
health and maintain their
own home. Mr. Newman is a
member of the Fraternal Order
of Eagles, Nest 1411 and Mrs.
Newman belongs to the Eagles'
Auxiliary. They are members of
Salem Evangelical and Reformed
Church.
Mr. and Mrs. Newman keep
busy with household tasks, visits
with friends and relatives, and so
cial activities. For relaxation at
home they enjoy television. They
also belong to a card club that
meets every two weeks.
Mrs. Newman has two sisters,
Mrs. Daniel Phillips and Mrs
Charles Edin and Mr. Newman
has two sisters, Mrs. Mary Russell
of Tonawanda and Mrs. Bertha
Faunes of Hartford, Ind.
The celebrants received many
attractive gifts and were recipients
of greeting cards and congratulatory
messages.
