- John W. Smith, 81, a longtime resident of the Town of Niagara, passed into eternal life on March 3, 2021 at Niagara Hospice House. Born on August 6, 1939 in Pruden, TN, he was the son of the late Marion and Helen (nee Pack) Smith. On September 3, 1960, John married Sondra G. Palmer. Mrs. Smith predeceased him on April 14, 2016.
John graduated from Henderson Settlement High School in Frakes Kentucky and came to Niagara Falls as a teenager with his family. He proudly served in the United States Army, during the Vietnam War, from May 22, 1963 until his honorable discharge on May 21, 1969. John retired from SKW Alloys, Inc. where he worked as a welder. He enjoyed bowling, fishing and deer hunting.
John is survived by two daughters, Tammy (Cameron) Garcia of Colorado and Kimberly (Jimmy) Vigue of Town of Niagara, NY; four grandchildren, Eric Vigue, Cecily (Duy Vu) Cotner, Zachary (Johnna) Vigue and Alec Cotner and several nieces and cousins.In addition to his parents and wife, he was predeceased by his siblings, Everett (living, Joyce) Smith, Nadine (late JT) Carr, Sylvia (late Arnold) Cobb and Kenneth (late Patricia) Smith.
The family will be present on Monday, March 8th from 5-7 p.m. at the OTTO REDANZ FUNERAL HOME, 2215 Military Road, Niagara Falls, NY (716-297-9007) where John’s funeral service will be held, concluding with Military Honors, at 7:00 p.m. with Rev. Stuart Buisch officiating. Friends invited. Private prayers of committal in Niagara Falls Memorial Park Cemetery. Masks and social distancing will be required for your safety at all gatherings.
