- ary Bainbridge Obituary
Bainbridge, Gary Gary R. Bainbridge, 82, of North Tonawanda, died November 16, 2024, in Boerne, Texas.
Gary was raised in Amherst by his late parents, Fred and Ingrid Bainbridge, alongside his siblings: the late Kenneth Bainbridge, the late Joan Adams, Larry (Andi) Bainbridge, Robert (Teri) Bainbridge, and Diane Arena.
A 1960 graduate of Sweet Home High School, Gary was affectionately nicknamed "Old Socs" by his classmates, a nod to his quiet integrity and wisdom. Following high school, he served in the army as a tank engine mechanic and later earned an associate's degree from Erie County Technical Institute, now Erie Community College.
Gary's career was marked by his role as vice president of operations at McGard LLC in Orchard Park. His dedication and innovative spirit led to the establishment of the quality control department and several patents for lug nuts and wheel locks. Under his leadership, McGard transformed from a small Buffalo plant into a successful international company.
After retiring in 2001, Gary generously volunteered his expertise at Roswell Park Cancer Center for many years.
In 1965, Gary married Michele Gemmette, and together they raised two children, Kelly Bainbridge and Wendy (Richard) Hartson. Michele lovingly cared for Gary following his dementia diagnosis in 2017. He was a cherished grandfather to Delaney Hartson, Brayden Hartson, and Abby Schroeder, and is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Gary was a steadfast source of comfort and support for family and friends, known for his calm demeanor and attentive listening. He lived by the words of his favorite poem, Desiderata: "Go placidly among the noise and haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence."
Services will be held at a later date.
