- Niagara Falls lost a beloved figure with the passing of Julian Grana, fondly known as Julie J, on December 28, 2024, at the age of 95. Known for his big heart, quick wit, and colorful style, Julian had a gift for making life brighter for everyone around him.
Born in Niagara Falls, on September 23, 1929, to the parents of the late Theodore and Maime (Archie) Grana, Julian proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1950 to 1954 in Germany. After returning home, he dedicated his life to his faith, family, and community.
Julian was the proud owner of T. Grana & Son Produce, a family business that began with his father and was passed down to his son. The produce business served the Niagara Falls community for over 100 years before closing in 2021.
For over 50 years, Julian served as an usher at Our Lady of Lebanon Church and was a vital part of countless events. He and his late wife, Annabelle, were among the first couples to receive the St. Joseph’s Award for their service.
A 50-year member of the Knights of Columbus, Julian was also honored with the Pine Avenue Award, the Boy Club’s Man of the Year title, and a Papal Blessing.
Known for his colorful wardrobe and love of people, Julian never met a stranger. He loved cheering for the Buffalo Bills and Detroit Tigers and sharing stories with friends and family.
Julian was preceded in death by Annabelle (Baio), his loving wife of 69 years, and his siblings, Frances Grana, Connie Radomski, and Anthony Grana. He is survived by his children, Julianne Grana (John Soltys), Karen Grana, and Ted Grana (Lorrie); his sister-in-law, Elga Grana; eight grandchildren: Thomas (Suzanne) and Cori Bosso, David (Kristen) Cassert, Christine (Al) Franjoine, Theodore (Beth) Cassert, Justin (Jess), Lauren, and Adam Grana; and nine great-grandchildren: Alyssa, Thomas, Julianna, Sienna, Evan, Julian, June Rose, Cooper, and Magnolia.
Visitation will be Thursday, January 2 from 3 – 7 PM at M.J. Colucci & Son Niagara Funeral Chapel, 2730 Military Road, Niagara Falls, NY. Julian’s Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday at 11:00 AM in St. Raphael’s Parish, 3840 Macklem Ave, Niagara Falls, NY 14305. Entombment will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Julian’s memory to Heart, Love & Soul of Niagara or Niagara Hospice.
Niagara Falls won’t be the same without Julian’s vibrant spirit, but his legacy of love, humor, and generosity will live on in all who knew him.
