of Sergeant Herbert W. Carr
whose body recently arrived from .

Thursday In Union M. E. church,
Somerset, under the auspices of
the Herbert W. Carr American Le-
glon post of Barker, tho Rev. L. J .
Grwoss officiating, tho Rev. J . W.
Searles assisting. Burial was made In
Hartland Central cemetery, with mil-
i t a ry ceremonies. He Is survived by
a wife, Mrs. Mildred Baker Carr, his
mother, Mrs. William Neuman and
several brothers. Sergeant Carr en-
tered the service November, 1917, re-
maining at Camp Dix, Greene and
Merritt until April, 1918, when he
was sent overseas, a member of Co.
M. 7th U.S. infantry, which was a
unit of what became th famous
Third Division. He fought in nine
great battles, including the battles of
the Marne which checked the Ger-
mans in their advance on Paris. It
was during the meuse-Argonne of-
fensive he was taken ill. A cablegram
from General Pershing some two
years ago confirmed the report of his
death.
