  North Tonawanda NY Evening News - 7/24/1981 Michael J. (Joe) Balling, 85, a native of Tonawanda and long-time parishioner of St. Francis of Assisi Church, died Friday in St. F r a n c i s Home in Williamsville. Mr. Balling was a life member of the Bricklayers Local 49 of Tonawanda. He retired from Balling Brothers in 1964, a firm begun by his brother, the late Henry J Balling, and involving all eight of the Balling brothers. A veteran of World War I, Mr. Balling was the husband of the late Myrtle Near. He is survived by three sons, Michael J. (Patricia) Balling and Robert (Joanne) Balling both of Tonawanda. and Dr. Peter (Lynn) Balling of Piseatwa. N.J., and a daughter, Mrs Richard (Patricia) Himes of Kettering, Ohio. He is also survived by a brother, Jacob Balling of North Tonawanda and a sister, Mrs. Frances Brown of Englewood, Fla,, 12 granchildren and it great-grandchildren. Friends may call today and Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at Creasey Memorial Chapel, Inc., 138 Delaware St.. Tonawanda. Prayers will be said at 9 a.m. Monday it.the chapel followed by a mass of Christian burial at St. Francis of Assisi Church and interment in Mount Olivet Cemetery. If desired, memorials may be made to St. Francis Home in Williamsville.
