- Jack R. Carney, age 76, of Irving, Texas and Tonawanda, New York, died Thursday, August 13, 2015 at DeGraff Memorial Hospital in North Tonawanda, New York, after a brief illness. Born in North Tonawanda, he was the son of the late Spencer and Sophia (nee Balling) Carney and was an Air Force Veteran of the Cold War. He was a resident of Tonawanda until moving to Irving, Texas 25 years ago. Jack earned his BA and MA from the University at Buffalo, his Graduate Certificate in Business at Dartmouth College, and a Masters in Arts and Humanities from the University of Dallas. He was employed at Occidental Chemical in Niagara Falls for more than 25 years and then worked in the IT field before retiring in 2011.
He is survived by his wife, Sally (nee Bellinger) Carney of Irving, Texas; his daughter, Sarah (Keith) Carney-Sutton of Phoenix, Arizona; two grandchildren, Courtney Sutton and Alex Sutton, both of Phoenix; and his brother, Jim (Margaret) Carney of Wheatfield, New York. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his siblings, Alta Meyers and Fran Bean.
Friends may call from 4-7 PM on Monday only at the HAMP FUNERAL HOME, Inc., 37 Adam Street, Tonawanda. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 AM Tuesday at St. Francis Chapel, 71 Adam Street, Tonawanda. Friends invited. If desired, memorials to the Dallas Bach Society, PO Box 140201, Dallas, TX 75214, are preferred by the family.
