- Debra E. Newman Obituary
Debra Newman, nee Brouillard of the Tuscarora Nation Bear Clan passed peacefully on Sunday May 4, 2025 at Mt St Mary's hospital surrounded by her loving family.
Debbie was born October 11, 1953 in Lewiston NY to the late Francois Brouillard and the late Betty Banks, nee Chew. She was raised by her mother and stepfather Joseph Ligammari on the Tuscarora Nation. Debbie attended local schools and later graduated from Alfred State College with an associate's degree. She worked as a cleaner for the Niagara Wheatfield School District for more than 20 years until her retirement in 2020.
Debbie was loved by all who knew her. Her fun-loving free-spirited ways were welcoming to all, and often, you could find her wearing a tie-dyed t-shirt and crazy socks. Her friends and family looked forward to her daily Christmas sock posts with a different pair each day leading up to the holiday.
Deb was a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and cousin and at family gatherings she would often be found playing in the puddles with the little ones. She enjoyed cooking for her family, no amount of people was too many, and working with her plants and in her garden.
Debbie is survived by her loving children Clint (Charlotte) Newman and Stacey Newman. She will be missed by grandchildren, Adam Nowicki, Clint Newman, Jr, Alice Duggan and Cheyannah Newman. She is also survived by her siblings, Andre Ligammari, Marcie Ligammari, Connie Williams, Mary Smoyer, and Laurie (Lee) Jacobs. In addition, she is survived by a large extended family of Aunts, nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Gary Newman; step-father, Peter banks; siblings Randall Brouillard and Francene Patterson.
Visitation will be held Thursday May 8th at Zajac Funeral Home Inc. 319 24th Street Niagara Falls from 3-7 PM. A traditional longhouse ceremony will be held Friday May 9th at 11:00 AM at the Tuscarora Nation Longhouse, 1926 Mt Hope Road. All will be welcome. Interment will follow in Mt Hope Cemetery.
