A former resident of Newfane and
a veteran of World War II, John
S. Banta has been appointed assistant
to George M. Boughton,
manager of the Colony Hotel, Delray
Beach, Pla. The appointment
was made shortly after Mr. Banta
was released from the Navy in
December.
Mr. Banta served two years
aboard a destroyer, the USS Murphy,
and held the rank of lieutenant,
junior grade. His ship was in
every invasion in the European
Thealer and played an important
role during the Yalta Conference by
transporting King Ibn Saud of
Saudi-Arabia and his 42 attendants
from Jidda, Arabia, to a confer-
ence with the late President Roose-
velt. During the trip, the ship's
officers were honored at a banquet
given them in Arabian fashion.
A graduate of Cornell University,
School of Hotel Administration, Mr.
Banta entered the Navy after corn-
pleting his course in April, 1943.
While at college, he was a member
of Delta Kappa Epsilon Fraternity
and the Sphinx Head Society.
The Naval officer is married an d
his wife, Maude, and daughter,
Carol, are in Florida with him. His
mother, Mrs. Thomas a. Banta,
and brother, Thomas R. Banta, re-
side in Newfane.
