Lois D. Barnum, a cherished member of the Wilson, NY community, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 14, 2025, at the age of 94, surrounded by her loving family at the Lockport Rehab and Health Care Facility.
Born on November 8, 1930, in Lockport, NY, she was the daughter of the late Harold and Ruth (née Mudge) Stedman. Lois always kept busy working. Over her lifetime she held several different jobs; she worked at College Inn, Harrison Radiator as a shipping clerk, Wilson Town Hall as the village tax collector, Luff’s Greenhouse, Martha’s Cupboard, Pekin Market, Ms Thankyou, and The Garden Gate Florist. She devoted herself wholeheartedly to her family and her hometown. She found joy in gardening, “puttering” around the house, quilting, and most of all, making memories with her family.
Faith and community were central to Lois’s life. A dedicated member of Exley Community Church, she took great pride in welcoming friends and fellow parishioners each Sunday. She also held a deep appreciation for local history and was one of the founding member members of the Wilson Historical Society, preserving the stories and heritage of the town she loved.
Lois was predeceased by her beloved husband, Whitney Barnum; her son-in-law, Lawrence Andrews; brother, Bill (late Jeannine) Stedman and her former husband, Gordon Mawhiney.
She is survived by her loving children, Shelley Andrews, Roger (Francine) Mawhiney, and Melaniejane Barnum; cherished grandchildren, Chad (Kristen), Kyle (Jamie), Kristina (Bill), Jenna (Steve), and David; 11 adored great-grandchildren; and many dear nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on July 27 from 4–7 PM at Hardison Funeral Homes, Inc., 3648 Ransomville Road, Ransomville, NY. Funeral Services will be held on July 28 at 11am at Exley Community Church, 338 Lake Street, Wilson, NY. Family and friends are kindly asked to assemble at the church. Interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery in Wilson.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in Lois' Honor to Exley Community Church or the Wilson Historical Society.
