 Newport. Nov. 9.—Russell Pierce died
 very suddenly at his home in ttiis village
 last night about 11 O'clock, He was about
 the village as usual until about  9 o'clock,
 when he went home and rested.  Being
 troubled for breath he arose and dressed
 Then a doctor was called, but he survived
 only about 15 minutes after the physician's
 arrival. Mr. Pierce had been ailing
 for about two weeks, but had been able
 to be about. An attack of pneumonia, and
 heart failure were the immediate cause of
 his death.
 Russell Pierce was born In Holland Patent.
 May 26. 1840. and resided there until
 about nine years ago, when he removed to
 Remsen. coming to Newport four years
 ago this month. While In Holland Patent
 and Remsen he followed the occupatlon of
 farmer.  He was known in Newport as an
 industrious man and had gained many
 friends who will be pained to learn of his
 death, for he was highly respected by all.
 He was united in marriage February 25,
 1874. to Delptrene Barringer of Constablevllle.
 Besides his widow, he Is survived
 by Six children, Mrs. May StiIlmun, Laura,
 Alonso, Ernest, Florence and Cheater
 Pierce, all of Newport: also two brothers.
 Newton of Holland Patent and Edmond of
 Rome, and two sisters. Mrs. Charles Hamilton
 of Sloansville and Mrs. Henry Wolcott
 of Schenectady. The funeral will be
 held Saturday at 9 o'clock at the house, interment
 at Holland Patent
