- Irene Saia, 97, of Lewiston, NY, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 3, 2022 at Schoellkopf Health Care Facility. Born in Niagara Falls, NY, she was the daughter of the late Guido and Angelina Bartolomei.
Irene attended local schools and graduated from Niagara Falls High School. On April 22, 1951, she married her beloved husband, Joseph Saia at St. Joseph’s Church. Mr. Saia predeceased her on September 9, 2018.
Irene was employed as a X-Ray Tech in Niagara Falls for many years prior to her retirement. She enjoyed golfing and was a longtime member of the Niagara Frontier Golf Club along with her husband. She was also an avid bowler in her younger years.
Irene enjoyed many crafts and especially loved needle point sewing, ceramic painting and making dolls. She was also an excellent cook and will be remembered greatly by her family for making the best fried chicken.
Irene is survived by her daughter, Susan Saia; her sister, Joyce Sabin, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her brother Edward Bartolomei.
The family wishes to thank the caregivers at Schoellkopf Health Care Facility for the excellent care and compassion given to Irene over the last six years.
Funeral services will be announced at a later date. Entombment will be held in Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
