Robert C. Koch, age 85, of North Tonawanda, died Friday, August 29, 2014, after a long illness. Born June 25, 1929 in the City of Tonawanda, he was a graduate of the Tonawanda High School Class of 1947, and then Erie County Technical Institute. He retired after 45 years as a laboratory technician at the Exolon Company in Tonawanda. Bob was a Master Sergeant in the 106th Field Artillery of the 27th Division of the New York National Guard, both prior to and during the Korean War. Bob was a past president of the Pine Woods P.T.A. and the Koch family was a Church Women United host family of foreign students and guests. Bob was on every committee that planned the Class of 1947 reunions and also served as a former usher at Kleinhan's Music Hall. He was a past treasurer of the Friedens couples' bowling league, a member of the North Tonawanda Senior Center, where he was a past president of the Monday and Thursday bowling leagues. Bob was a past vice-president of the Forever Young Seniors of the Tonawandas, a member and former board member of the AARP Chapter of 3526 of North Tonawanda. He had been active at Ascension Church, where he had ushered at 8 AM Mass, volunteered at the annual carnival, was a former Bingo caller, and member of the Ascension Seniors. Bob enjoyed ice fishing, bowling, historical travels, cards, crossword puzzles, fishing and gardening.
He was the son of the late Augustus and Genevieve (nee Batt) Koch, and brother of the late Helen G. Koch and Genevieve (Jack) Still.
He was the beloved husband for 62 years of Janice (nee Jacobi) Koch; loving father of Katherine (Ronald) Ippolito of Rochester, Karen (the late Mark) Gentry of Eggertsville, Kenneth (Shirley) Koch of Tonawanda, and Kristine (Brian) Reinhart of Clarence. Bob is also survived by 12 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, his brother-in-law, Jack (Barbara) Jacobi and a cousin, Rita Johnson of Chicago, IL.
Friends may call from 4-8 PM on Tuesday only at the HAMP FUNERAL HOME, Inc., 37 Adam Street at Seymour, Tonawanda. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 AM Wednesday at St. Jude the Apostle R.C. Church, 800 Niagara Falls Blvd., North Tonawanda. Friends invited. If desired, memorials to the St. Jude Outreach Program are preferred by the family.
