Mrs. Carmella Battaglia, 53,
of 240 Liston St., Town of Tonawanda,
a former teacher, died
of cancer Tuesday at Buffalo
General Hospital.
Mrs. Battaglia ended her
teaching career in January at
Amherst Central Junior High
School, where she taught a unified
(English, history, reading
combination) Grade 8 class. She
taught there 13 years.
Mrs. Battaglia p r e v i o u s ly
taught for 12 years in the Buffalo
public school system and
began her grade teaching in a
one-room school at Clarence.
A graduate of the State University
College at Buffalo, she
did postgraduate work in education
at Duke University, "New
York University and the State
University at Buffalo. She was a
member of the New York State
Teachers Association.
Born in Buffalo, she was the
former Carmella Corritore.
Survivors Include her husband,
Charles J. Battaglia; two daughters,
Mrs. Joseph Siracuse and
Miss Eleanor Battaglia; a son,
Charles Battaglia Jr., and five
grandchildren.
Prayers will be said at 8:30
a.m. Friday at the Greco Funeral
Home, Town of Tonawanda, followed
by a Requiem Mass at 9
at St. John the Baptist Church.
Burial will be in Mt. Olivet
Cemetery.
