LOCKPORT-Services will be
conducted at 2:30 p.m. Saturday
in the Gaul Funeral Home for
Frederick E. Singer, 64, of 51
Nichols St., a Harrison Radiator
solderer for the last 30 years, who
ended his life Thursday by diving
some 30 feet from the Big Bridge
onto a concrete parapet of the
Barge Canal at Main and Cottage
Sis.
.'The Rev. Clarence Gee, assistant
castor at First Presbyterian Church,
will officiate and burial will be in
Cold Spring Cemetery.
Dr. Rita Moyer, city health officer,
called to the scene in the
emergency, said she will issue a
certificate of suicide. She said
death was caused by a skull fracture.
Mr. Singer was reported to
have been in ill health for the last
four months. He was due for retirement
in November. No suicide
note was found.
First reports from police said
there were no witnesses to the incident,
but later investigation showed
at least three persons said they
saw Singer climb to the railing and
jump, the doctor said. He had left
his home about 9:45 a.m. to visit
a friend. The jump occurred about
11 a.m.
Mr. Singer was born in Lockport
Nov. 8, 1891, son of William
D. and Ella Lewis Singer. He was
a graduate of Lock port High School
and a veteran of World War I
where he served with the 311th
Field Artillery battalion. He was a
member of B. Leo Dolan Post No.
410, American Legion.
Surviving arc his wife, the former
Gertrude Baudendistel; a daughter,
Mrs. Catherine Ryan, Miami,
Fla.; a brother and two sisters,
Harold L. Singer, this city, Mrs.
Leah Plautz, McAllen, Tex., and
Mrs. Ella Colopy Santa Monica,
Calif.
