- James J. Holt, Jr., of Lewiston, NY, passed away on Tuesday, December 22, 2015, in Buffalo General Hospital. He was born in Niagara Falls, NY on March 2, 1938, a son of the late James J. and Ethel [Teel] Holt, Sr.
Mr. Holt served with the US Navy, from 1955 to 1959 aboard the USS Essex as a certified and rated electrician. He traveled around the world on the Essex and celebrated crossing the equator with a special ceremony. In 1965 he graduated from Niagara County Community College with his degree in Natural Science and Biology. He began working with the Albert Elia Building Company as manager of their service painting corporation and Butler Building systems.
In 1972 he began a long and successful career as an engineer and loss control consultant working with the Aetna Casualty and Surety Company, Travelers Insurance Company, and Merchants Insurance Group, before retiring in 2013.
Mr. Holt was a member of the American Society of Safety Engineers, the Association of Hospital Safety Professionals, the LaSalle Yacht Club and the Niagara Club. He served on the Board of Associates at Mt. St. Mary's Hospital and the Niagara Falls Festival of Lights auction committee.
Mr. Holt is survived by his wife of 45 years, Jane Lynn Chormann, one daughter Lura K. (Ryan) Kingston of Wheatfield, NY, two grandsons Owen W. and Calvin J. Kingston and was the brother in law of George G. Chormann and Susan (Nicholas) Minicucci, he is also survived by many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Peggy A. (late Thomas W.) Beahen.
His family will be present on Sunday from 2-6 PM, at the RHONEY FUNERAL HOME, 901 Cayuga Street, LEWISTON, NY, with Military Honors by the US Navy concluding the calling hours at 6:00 PM. Flowers are gratefully declined. Memorials may be made in his name to Niagara Hospice, 4675 Sunset Drive, Lockport, NY 14094.
