LOCKPORT--Stricken with an
acute heart attack while attending
a party at Wright's Corners, N. Y.,
last evening, Burt E. Dawson, 63,
of 237 Waterman street, who retired
as assistant fire chief January 1,
after 34 years of service, died within
a few momenta.
With Mr. Dawson was his wife,
Mrs. Barbara Beakman Dawson, the
only near relative, who had accompanied
him to attend the Twentyfifth'
wedding celebration of Mr.
and Mrs. John Rathke In Krorienberg
hall.
Mr. Dawson was born In Buffalo,
September 28. 1880, a son of Mr.
and Mrs. Prank Dawson. He resided
most of his life here and as a
young man was employed at the
former Standish and Son grocery
and drug store In Main street.
Serving first as a volunteer fireman
with the Active Hose company,
he was named to the paid department
in. 1909 as a driver during the
days of horse-drawn flre-flghtlng
equipment. On August 4,1916, he was
promoted to captain and on December
23, 1921. was assigned to
fire headquarters. He was made
assistant chief January 1, 1925.
He was a member of the Exempt
Firemen's association, Lockport
Lodge, No. 73, P. and A. M.. and
the English Lutheran church.
Services will be held Sunday at
2:30 pjn. at the home and at 3
o'clock at the English Lutheran
church. Burial will be In Cold
Springs cemetery.
