NIAGARA FALLS — Stanley Arthur Rivers, age 94, of Niagara Falls, NY, entered into rest on Thursday, July 25, 2013. Stanley was born, July 22, 1919, in Niagara Falls, NY, the son of the late William and Liza Rivers. He married Jettie Grey Painter on March 18, 1943, at St. Paul's Methodist Church, Niagara Falls, NY. He attended local schools and was a member of the former St Paul's Methodist Church. He joined the Civilian Conservation Corp in 1937. Stanley was a World War II Army veteran in the Pacific Theater and was a chemical operator for 31 years at E.I. DuPont's Niagara Falls facility, retiring in 1981. In retirement he was a member, and served as Exalted Ruler, of local Lodge #346 of the Benevolent Order of the Elks. He was also an active bowler and golfer, and was a member of numerous retirement leagues.
He is survived by his spouse of 70 years and two sons, James (Michelle) Rivers of Oakland, CA and Kenneth Rivers, Aliso Viejo, CA; and three grandchildren, Sally (Andrew) Robinson, San Leandro, CA, Kelly Rivers, San Francisco, CA, and Joshua Rivers, Oakland, CA. He was one of six siblings and is survived by his sister, Rita Miller of Wheatfield, and preceded by Edward Rivers, Marie Dury, Margaret Steele and Dorothy Wojton.
In accordance with Stanley's wishes, there will be no prior visitation. A private service will be held at the family's convenience. Interment will be at the family plot in Niagara Falls Memorial Cemetery. Arrangements have been entrusted to LANE FUNERAL HOME, INC., 8622 Buffalo Avenue, Niagara Falls, NY. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of your choice.
