SANBORN — Gertrude M. Becken, of Sanborn, NY, passed away on Saturday, April 20, 2013, at her home, under the care of her family and Niagara Hospice.
She was born in West Shelby, on February 17, 1928, the daughter of the late Warren and Ethel (Smith) Eckert.
Mrs. Becken was employed at Wurlitzer and National Grinding Wheel before becoming a hairdresser, working out of her home for many years.
She was an active member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church at North Ridge, the Pekin Ladies Auxiliary for over 40 years, Home Bureau, the Red Hat Ladies and a member with the Sanborn, Ransomville and Newfane Senior Citizens. Mrs. Becken enjoyed spending time with her family, traveling, doing ceramics and making porcelain dolls.
She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Carl R. Becken; three sons, Ronald C. (Elaine) Becken of Sanborn, Richard C. (Diane) Becken of the Town of Wheatfield, and Randy C. (Denise) Becken of Sanborn; one daughter, Cheryl L. (fiance Gerald Wilburn) Brosnan of Cottondale, AL; two sisters, Bertha Clute and Anna (Larry) Budde. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. Mrs. Becken was the sister of the late Richard Eckert.
The family will be present on Monday from 2-4 & 7-9 PM at the RHONEY FUNERAL HOME, 5893 Hoover Road, SANBORN, NY. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 10:00 AM, at St. Peter Lutheran Church North Ridge, 4169 Church Road, Lockport, NY, with the Rev. Robert L. Hoffman officiating. Memorials may be made in her name to St. Peter's Church or to Niagara Hospice. Inurnment in White Chapel Memorial Park, Town of Amherst, NY.
