John S. Beczkowski of Niagara Falls, NY, was called to his heavenly home on November 5, 2014 under the loving care of his family and Niagara Hospice.
He was born in Niagara Falls, NY on August 15, 1927 to the late John and Sophie (Monko) Beczkowski. John attended local schools and was drafted into the United States Army on April 26, 1946. On June 5, 1946 he enlisted into the United States Air Force. While serving the rank of Corporal, his tour of duty included being stationed in Panama where he was a crash and structural firefighter driver. He was honorably discharged on June 4, 1949 and received the Good Conduct Medal, World War II Victory Medal for his service and Sharp Shooter Award. On September 3, 1949, he married Genevieve Bernat whom he was married to for 54 years before her death in August 2004.
He worked for 36 years for Kimberly Clark/ Cellu/Niatec. John later was a bus driver for Opportunities Unlimited, picking up senior citizens in Niagara County for six years before he retired in 1991 to take care of his wife suffering with Parkinson's disease.
John was an avid hunter and enjoyed vacationing in Northern Canada fishing with his wife and children. He was a handy man and enjoyed woodworking, remodeling and had a knack for being able to repair just about "anything". He enjoyed traveling with his wife and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He also took pride in his gardening.
He is survived by three children; Diane (Robert) Smith, Gloria Beczkowski and John C. Beczkowski; six grandchildren and fourteen great-grand- children. Besides his wife and parents he was predeceased by a brother Matthew and sister Pauline Ciskiewicz.
Visitation will be held on Friday November 7, 2014 at ZAJC FUNERAL HOME INC., 319- 24th Street, corner of Welch Ave., Niagara Falls, NY, 14303. Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, November 8, 2014 at 9:30 AM, which will be celebrated in Divine Mercy R.C. Church, 2437 Niagara Street, Niagara Falls, NY 14303 with Reverend Jacek Mazur serving as celebrant. Interment will be at Holy Trinity Cemetery with Military Honors. Donations can be made to Niagara Hospice, 4675 Sunset Drive, Lockport, NY 14094 or Divine Mercy Parish, 335 24th Street, Niagara Falls, NY 14303.
