- Kenneth A. Dougherty, 75 of the Tuscarora Nation, passed away on June 19, 2017 at his home surrounded by his wife and loving family while under the care of Niagara Hospice. Born in Niagara Falls, NY, he was the son of Audrey (Printup) LaRocca and the late Vernon K. Dougherty.
Kenneth graduated from Niagara Falls High School. He served in the United States Air Force and was honorably discharged on September 13, 1963. Ken began his employment working at Union Carbide and the Niagara Falls Rail Road. Afterwards he became a deputy with the Niagara County Sherriff’s Department during which time he also served as Constable of Wilson. He went on to serve as director of security for the Turtle Native American Museum until taking a position as an alcohol and substance abuse counselor at Clearview Treatment Services in Mt. St. Mary’s Hospital. Ken also worked closely with veterans suffering from PTSD ‘Post Traumatic Stress Disorder’ and was an advocate of early detection and public awareness. Ken along with his wife Eileen were instrumental in forming the first program for Native American with disabilities called ‘NAILS’, Native American Independent Living Services which served the area of the Six Nations.
Ken was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing and ATV riding. He was extremely handy and could always be found building things. He especially enjoyed socializing, family gatherings and was known for his story telling. Above all, Ken will be remembered for his devotion to his wife and love for his children and grandchildren.
Kenneth is survived by his loving wife of 31 years, Eileen (Brayley) Dougherty, seven children, Lisa (Bud) Crogan, Kenny Dougherty, Jennifer Dougherty, Steven (fiancé Kimberly) Hill, Russell (Teresa) Hill, Kelly (Gordy) Marsh and Sybil (Gary) Alden, several grandchildren, his cousin Patricia Dougherty and several nieces and nephews. He was also predeceased by a sister, Donna, grandparents Loveare and Cinderella (Williams) Printup and uncle, John ‘Ray’ Dougherty.
Visitation will be on Thursday from 4 – 8 P.M. at M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 Military Road, Niagara Falls, NY. Funeral services will be held on Friday June 23rd at 12 Noon at the Tuscarora Indian Mission, 5035 Walmore Road, Sanborn, NY, concluding with Military Honors. EVERYONE PLEASE ASSEMBLE AT CHURCH.
