MIDDLEPORT-Spencer H.
Bennett, 61, of 60 S. Main St.,
a former mayor of this community,
died Monday (Nov. 11,
1968) in Medina Memorial Hospital after
a long illness.
He .was Middleport mayor
from 1943 to 1951 and also
served as a deputy Niagara
County clerk from 1937 to 1950.
A Republican, he was a village
trusteee .from 1935 to 1943 and
was Niagara County rent administrator
from 1950 to 1953.
He was a former employe of
the Harrison Radiator Division
of the General Motors Corp. in
Lockport, where he worked
from 1953 until retiring in
March 1966 because of ill
health. He was a superintendent
of technical data at the
firm.
A native of this community,
he was bom the son of the late
George S. and Winnifred Ennist
Bennett. His father once operated
the Bennett Lumber
Yard here.
Mr. Bennett was a 1926 sraduat
of the former Middleport
High School and attended the
former Mechanics Institute in
Rochester. A past president of
the Northwestern Association of
Villiage Officials, he was a past
master of Cataract Lodge 295
F and AM.
Survivors include his wife
Lauretta Redmond Bennett;
and a sister, Mrs. Beverly
Smith of Medina.
A funeral service will be held
at 2 p.m. Thursday in the Wall-
lace and Heath Funeral Home
with the Rev. Alfred Underhill
officiating. Burial will be in
Hartland Central Cemetery.
Cataract Lodge 295 will conduct
Masonic services at 9 p.m.
today in the funeral home.
