Private funeral services were
held May 14 from the L. Floyd
Hess Funeral Home in Main St.
for Everett Lloyd Bennett of
Long Ave., senior unemployment
insurance referee for the New
Ycrk State Labor Dept., who
died May 11 in his 69th year. The
Rev. Allen G. Skiff, pastor of
Hamburg U n i t e d Methodist
Church, officiated with burial in
Acacia Park Cemetery.
Mr. Bennett became a Buffalobased
referee in the labor Dept.
in 1945 and was promoted to
senior referee in 1947.
Earlier in his 40-year legal career
with the state, Mr. Bennett
was a supervisor of vocational
rehabilitation in the Education
Dept's. Buffalo office from 1930
to 1945.
Before becoming a state employee,
Mr. Bennett had been engaged
in an individual practice
of law in Buffalo for three years
in the 1920's.
A native of Bridgeton, N. J.,
Mr. Bennett was a 1920 graduate
of Lafayette High School, Buffalo
and in 1924 earned a bachelor
of arts degree from Cornell
University.
He then entered the University
of Buffalo where he earned a
master's degree in education and
a doctor of jurisprudence degree.
Active in Boy Scouting, Mr.
Bennett had been a leader and
a committeeman of Explorer
Troop 509, Hamburg. He was
honored with the Order of the
Arrow Award.
He also was a charter member
and a former commodore of the
Hamburg Power Squadron and
had instructed several classes in
boating.
Mr. Bennett was a member of
the Hamburg United Methodist
Church where he served as an
usher. He also was a member of
the New York State Bar Assn.
Mr. Bennett leaves his wife,
the former Margaret Ashby, two
sons, Richard L. and Paul H.
Bennett, a daughter, Mrs. Eric
Benzin and nine grandchildren.
He was also a brother of the late
Albert Eugene Bennett.
