  BERNDT - Joanne (nee Schmidt) Age 67 of the City of Tonawanda, died peacefully October 8, 2017 at her residence under the care of Hospice Buffalo. Wife of 42 years of Dennis A. Berndt; mother of John (Lena) Berndt and Jeffrey (Allison) Berndt; grandmother of Jack, Abigail and Reese; daughter of the late Frank and Dorothy (nee Smith) Schmidt; sister of Julie (David) Newman and the late Michael Schmidt; aunt of Kristie (Chris); and daughter-in-law of Norma (late Gerald) Berndt. Joanne had been employed as an elementary school teacher for the City of Tonawanda School System, teaching at Delaware, Highland and Mullen Schools for more than 20 years. The family will receive relatives and friends on Saturday (October 14) from 2:30 - 5:00 PM at JOHN O. ROTH FUNERAL HOME, INC., 25 William Street (between Morgan and Broad Streets) in Tonawanda, where a Memorial Service will be held at 5:00 PM following the visitation. Everyone welcome. Flowers gratefully declined. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Buffalo or to Roswell Park Cancer Institute.
