(Lewiston) - Dorothy C. Baker, age 91, formerly of Balmer Rd., in Ransomville, died Saturday, June 14, 2008 in Mt. St. Marys Hospital in Lewiston, after a brief illness.Dorothy was born February 15, 1917 in the Town of Porter, the daughter of the late Frank and Jessie (Hamblin) Canfield and was a lifelong resident until 2005, when she moved to Lewiston. She was a graduate of Wilson High School and the Kelly Business School in Niagara Falls. On October 19, 1940 she married Howard Red L. Baker. Dorothy had worked as a secretary to loan officers in the Power City Trust Bank for six years and in 1942 she joined her husband to develop the Baker Farms business in Ransomville, and become the office manager.She was a lifelong active member of the Ransomville United Methodist Church. Dorothy was an avid reader and enjoyed quilting, crocheting and embroidering.Her husband predeceased her on November 12, 1997. She is survived by her children, Ann (James) Samplinski of Grand Island, Erie County, NY, Katherine (J. Anthony) Collard of Youngstown, Paul (Sharon) Baker of Lewiston and Emily (Christopher) Lotz of Danville, CA; her grandchildren, Theresa Pitts, Richard (Michelle) and Stephen (Amy) Samplinski, Sarah (Kenneth) English, Robert Collard, Brett (Kara) Baker, Elizabeth and Nicole Baker, Jennifer (Andrew) Kush, Melissa Lotz and Shannon (Ryan) Khlar; her great-grandchildren, Dalton and Drew Pitts, Joseph, Amanda, Trevor, Grace, Mitchell and Savannah Samplinski and Tyler Baker; a brother, Douglas (Shirley) Canfield of Ransomville; and two sisters-in- law, Isabel Canfield and Grace Baker, both of Ransomville. She was predeceased by four brothers, Donald (the late Marjorie) Canfield, James, Lewis, and Carl Canfield.Friends may call at HARDISON FUNERAL HOME, 3648 Ransomville Rd., Ransomville, on Friday from 5-8 PM. Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 21st at 10:00 AM in the funeral home, with the Rev. Les Drayer officiating. Burial will be private in North Ridge Cemetery, Town of Cambria.
