NIAGARA FALLS —
Norma Rose (nee Bevacqua) Nielsen, 81, of Niagara Falls, NY, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 10, 2014 in Orlando Regional Medical Center in Orlando, FL, after a brief illness. She was born on April 13, 1932 in Niagara Falls, NY to the late Maria (nee Cariolana) and Peterangelo Bevacqua.
She was educated in the local schools and was a graduate of Niagara Falls High School. On April 28, 1956, the former Norma Bevacqua married Harlan L. "Hal" Nielsen in St. Joseph Church. He passed away on January 10, 1996. For many years, Mrs. Nielsen worked as a secretary for Vanadium Corporation and the Alcohol Council of Niagara County retiring in the mid 1990's. Norma was a member of St. Joseph Church and the Italian Sons and Daughters of America Power City Lodge. Her pastimes and hobbies include cooking, baking, gardening, but most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.
Norma is survived by two sons, Mark P. (Beth) Nielsen of Longwood, FL and Harlan D. "Hal" (Amy) Nielsen of Orlando, FL; six loving grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents; her husband; six brothers, late Anthony Bevacqua, late Burt Bevacqua, late Paul Bevacqua, late Ernest Bevacqua, late William Bevacqua, late Frank Bevacqua; and five sisters, late Antoinette Bevacqua, late Elizabeth Pantepinto, late Carrie Lago, late Margaret Riggi, and late Mary Guagenti.
The family will be present to receive friends on Friday from 4-8 PM at the SPALLINO-AMIGONE FUNERAL HOME, 1300 Pine Ave., Niagara Falls, NY, where prayers will be said on Saturday morning at 9:15 AM, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated from Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph Parish at St. Joseph Church 1413 Pine Ave., Niagara Falls, NY. Rev. Stewart M. Lindsay, OSFS, officiating. Entombment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Niagara Falls, NY. Family and friends invited. If desired, memorials may be made in Norma's memory to the Alzheimer's Association of WNY, 2805 Wehrle Dr., Williamsville, NY 14221.
