'A two-car collision on Military Road, Town of
Lewiston, killed one person Monday afternoon and
seriously injured two others.
Dead is:
Paul E. Bates, 22, of 4354 Porter Center Road,
Ransomville, who was dead on arrival at Mount
St. Mary's Hospital.
Injured are:
Janice A. Paterson, 20, of 934 Orchard Drive,
Lewistonu originally in serious condition at Mount
St. Mary's. At press time, she was in critical condition.
David Bates, 17, of 4364 Porter Center Road,
Ransomville, originally in serious condition at
Mount St. Mary's. At press time, he was in satisfactory
condition. -
According to State Trooper Thomas Rash, the
investigating officer, the accident occurred at 2
p.m. Monday on Military Road just north of the
Lewiston Pump-Generating station of the State
Power Authority.
The car driven by the elder Bates brother was
traveling north on Military Road when it crossed
into the southbound lane and collided with the car
driven by Miss Paterson, state police reported.
Bates was born March 26, 1949, in Niagara Falls,
He was a 1969 graduate of Lewiston-Porter High
School and had been working for one year as anassembler
at the tonawanda plant of Chevrolet Division,
General Motors Corp. .
He was the son of the late August Bates and is
survived by his mother, Mrs. Mildred (Hildebrant)
Bates; four brothers, Howard of Green Bay, Wis.;
Charles of Maryville, Calif.; Ronald, serving'in
the armed forces in Japan, and David Bates, at
home, and one sister, Mrs, John (Carol) Puisys of
Niagara Falls.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday
at the Hardison Funeral Home, Lewiston.
Burial will be in Riverdale Cemetery.' Friends
may call from 7 to 9 p.m.Joday and from 2 to
5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday,
