LOCKPORT — Ronald P. Bates, age 68, of Lewiston, died Thursday, June 13, 2013, while under the loving care of his family and the staff in Niagara Hospice House in Lockport.
Ron was born February 16, 1945 in Lewiston, the son of the late August and Mildred (Hildebrant) Bates. A lifelong resident of Lewiston, he was a 1963 graduate of Lewiston Porter High School. Ron was a U.S. Marine Corp veteran of Vietnam, serving from October of 1967 to his honorable discharge, with the rank of Sergeant, in February of 1972. On June 16, 1973, he married Margaret (Krulisky) Bates, who predeceased him on March 12, 2008.
He was employed as a Truck Driver by GM Harrison Radiator in Lockport for over 30 years. Ron was a member of Lewiston Vol. Fire Co. #1 and Fire Police; the 3-F Conservation Club in Lewiston; and the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge #584 in Lewiston. He enjoyed archery, camping, woodworking and traveling.
He is survived by a daughter, Heather (Edward) Pierce of Tonawanda; two grandchildren, Caleb and Gavin Pierce; a step-grandson, Anthony Galikowski; a sister, Carol Puisys; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by five brothers.
Friends may call at HARDISON FUNERAL HOME, N. Fourth & Ridge Streets, Lewiston, on Monday from 7-9 PM and Tuesday from 2- 4 and 7-9 PM. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 19, at 11:00 AM in the funeral home, with the Rev. Thomas Mason officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Riverdale Cemetery, Lewiston.
