  North Tonawanda NY Evening News - 8/2/1971 Private funeral services will be conducted Wednesday for Mrs. Florence A. Beyer,,75, of 138. Clinton St., Tonawanda, a former Tonawanda schoolteacher who died yesterday in DeGraff Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Beyer is survived by a son,. John L. Beyer of Amherst; a daughter, Mrs. James Williams of Lakeport, Calif.; a brother, Joseph Mackey Tonawanda and five grandchildren. Her late husband, John L. Beyer, who died in 1965, served as mayor of Tonawanda from 1928 to 1933 and as an Erie County supervisor from 1936 to 1937. ~A native of Wilmington, Del., Mrs. Beyer had resided in Tonawanda for 60 years. She was a graduate of Buffalo Stafe Teachers College and taught fourth grade at Highland Elementary School for 26 1/2 years. In 1966, Mrs. Beyer was awarded an honorary life membership in the National Congress of Parents and Teachers for "devoted and distinguished service to children and youth." She was a member of the State Retired Teachers Association and the Historical Society of the Tonawandas. Hilliard Funeral Home Inc. is in charge of arrangements. Burial will be in Elmlawn Cemetery.
