BUFFALO — Douglas J. Henderson, 59, of Youngstown, NY, passed away on Friday, July 26, 2013, at Roswell Park Cancer Institute in Buffalo, NY. Born in Niagara Falls, NY, he was the son of Doris (Smith) Henderson of Niagara Falls, NY and the late Dugald Henderson.
Douglas was a lifelong resident of the Niagara Falls area. He attended local schools, graduating from Niagara Falls High School and later Buffalo State College where he earned a degree in economics. In December 1982 he married Cheryle E. (Burnham) Henderson. Doug began a 28-year career in purchasing with Great Lakes Carbon in Niagara Falls. He later went on to become a certified purchasing manager with Sumitomo Bakelite North America (formerly Durez), also in Niagara Falls, where he was currently employed.
Doug was a longtime member of St. John Lutheran Church in Youngstown. In his leisure time he enjoyed golfing, listening to music and was passionate about watching the Three Stooges and Western movies. Doug was also actively involved in his son's athletics when they were younger, and was a coach in the Youngstown Youth Baseball League. Above all, Doug will be remembered as a selfless and supportive individual who enjoyed the simple pleasures of life alongside his family and friends.
In addition to his wife and mother, Doug is survived by his three sons, Michael D. Henderson of Lewiston, NY, Jeffrey R. (Alicia) Henderson of North Tonawanda, NY, Ryan M. (Jill) Henderson of Lewiston, NY; his sister, Carol (Carl) Wegener of Niagara Falls, NY and brother, Robert Henderson of Eatontown, NJ. He was the special son-in-law of the late Roy and June Burnham; brother-in-law of Cynthia Burnham of Florida, Timothy Burnham of Texas, Michelle Evans and Jay Burnham, both of Florida. He is also survived by his beloved dog, Kush and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 12-3 and 6-9 PM at M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 Military Road, Niagara Falls, NY. Family and friends are invited to attend funeral services on Wednesday, July 31st at 11:00 AM in St. John Lutheran Church, 420 Lockport Street, Youngstown, NY, with Rev. Richard Blemaster officiating. EVERYONE PLEASE ASSEMBLE AT CHURCH. Interment will follow in Riverdale Cemetery, Lewiston, NY. Flowers are graciously declined. If desired, memorial offerings may be made to St. John Lutheran Church, 420 Lockport St., Youngstown, NY 14174.
