David S. Broderick, Sr., of Lewiston, NY, passed away on Monday, August 5, 2013, in Our Lady of Peace Nursing Care Residence. He was born in Niagara Falls, NY, on January 2, 1939, the son of the late Willard H. and Helen (Frombgen)Broderick.
His family moved to Wilson and later to Lockport, where he graduated from DeSales High School in 1956. He served with the US Marine Corp, 8th Engineer Battalion, Fleet Marine Force out of Camp Lejeune, NC. After returning from the service, he attended and graduated from Niagara University. Mr. Broderick was the assistant district executive with the Boy Scouts of America and then became district manager of Marine Midland Bank leasing corporation. He was appointed Niagara County Treasurer by the late Governor Nelson Rockefeller in 1973, a post he held for 37 years before retiring in 2010. Mr. Broderick was the longest serving county treasurer in New York State History. Mr. Broderick was Past President of the New York State Treasurers and Financial Officers Association. He was actively involved with the Niagara Falls Jaycees, Past President of theSt. Mary's Board of Associates. He was an avid golfer and was a member of the Niagara Frontier County Club and the Lockport Town and Country Club.
Mr. Broderick is survived by his wife, Jane A. (Lonberger) Broderick; two sons, David S. "Steve" (Sheila) Broderick, Jr., of Lewiston, NY and Captain Andrew J. (Amy A.) Broderick, USMC of Syracuse, NY; one daughter, Jenetta B. (James) Quinlan of West Chester, PA; three brothers, William D. (Joan) Broderick, Peter L. (Gretchen) Broderick and John J. (Claudia) Broderick; three sisters, Sarah J. Viscomi, Susan B. (Joseph) Moore and Ann M. (George) Wynes; two sisters-in-law, Terry (Murry) Sharan and Jeanne (William) Fischer. He is also survived by eight grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Michael S. Broderick; and son-in-law of the late Jean Lonberger.
The family will be present on Wednesday from 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM at the RHONEY FUNERAL HOME, 901 Cayuga Street, LEWISTON, NY. Friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday at 10:00 AM at St. Peter's Church, 620 Center Street, Lewiston, NY, with Msgr. John Zeitler officiating. Flowers are gratefully declined. Memorials may be made in his name to Sacred Heart Villa, 5269 Lewiston Road, Lewiston, NY 14092. Private interment with Military Honors in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Lewiston, NY.
