LOCKPORT Howard W. Schmitt, of Wrights Corners, husband of the late Annegene Young Schmitt, entered into rest Wednesday, April 21, 2010 in Leesburg, FL. He was born in Lockport, NY, on August 13, 1927, the son of the late Daniel and Hope Whitman Schmitt. Howard married Annegene Young November 10, 1951 in West Somerset Baptist Church. She died September 21, 1999. He worked for Gurtell Steel in Lockport as a cold rold operator, retiring in 1984 after 26 years of service. Howard and his wife moved to Florida in 1985 coming from Wrights Corners. Exempt member and past trustee of Wrights Corners Fire Company. Past trustee of Wrights Corners Presbyterian Church and past Asst. Scout Master for Troop 40 in Wrights Corners. Father of Stephen H. Schmitt of Wrights Corners, James J. (Candace) Schmitt of Charlotte, NC and John (Judy) Schmitt of Wrights Corners; grandfather of Julie and James Schmitt and Richard Carter; great-grandfather of Kimberly Rose Schmitt and Nathan James Schmitt; brother of Robert (Nancy) Schmitt of Wrights Corners and the late Helen Buhr. No prior visitation. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, May 15, 2010 at 11:00 AM in Newfane United Methodist Church, Main St., Newfane, NY. Burial will be in Wrights Corners Cemetery. Memorials to Christ United Methodist Church, 1313 East Griffin Road, Leesburg, FL 34748 or Cornerstone Hospice, 2445 Lane Park Road, Traverse, FL 32778 would be appreciated by the family.
