NIAGARA FALLS — William Bishara, 78, of Niagara Falls, NY, passed away on January 2, 2014, at his residence. Born in Niagara Falls, NY, he was the son of the late Bishara W. and Najla (Haick) Bishara.
Bill graduated from Niagara Falls High School in 1953 and received an Associate's degree from Erie Community College. He also attended Rochester Institute of Technology and the State University of New York at Buffalo. On February 8, 1959, he married his loving wife, Ann D. (Medzadourian) Bishara at St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Niagara Falls, NY. They were also married at St. George's Orthodox Church during their honeymoon in Miami, FL. Together they were active members at St. George's Antiochian Orthodox Church in Niagara Falls, NY. He was also a choir member.
William served in the United States Army Reserves for six years. He began his work career as a draftsman with the Carborundum Company in 1962 (now Unifrax I LLC), and retired in 2001 as the manager of Application Engineering, a position he held for more than 20 years. During his career of 39 years, Bill was instrumental in the development of many new products and applications for high temperature insulation, which are currently used across a wide variety of industries. In this regard, he was instrumental in Unifrax I LLC being awarded several patents. He received a Lifetime Achievement Award and the Friend of the Field Award twice during his years of service. Several of the current management team members at Unifrax I LLC began their careers under Bill's leadership and benefited greatly from his professionalism, work ethic and mentoring. Bill's passion and dedication to all that he did brought the best out of everyone he touched and made them better people.
Bill took great pride in his family and enjoyed entertaining them. He also adored his grandchildren and cherished the moments he spent with them. He was honored to serve as a Scout Master for his children's Boy Scout Troop #837. He also enjoyed Archery and was once ranked third in the state. Bill also was an inspired inventor and liked to build small gadgets to solve everyday problems. Bill will also be remembered for his quick wit and sense of humor.
In addition to his wife of 54 years, Mr. Bishara is survived by his three children, William J. Bishara, David M. (Susan L.) Bishara, Michael D. (Jennifer L.) Bishara; five grandchildren, Zachary N. Sheldon, Jonathon W. Bishara, Daniel J. Bishara, Ethan Sheldon Bishara and Abigail Ann Bishara; four siblings, Grace Aswad (Very Rev. George R. Aswad), Joseph Bishara, Kamil D. Bishara (fiance Carol Bauda), Judy (Jack) Manoukian; nieces and nephews, Lynn (Dr. George) Wood, Laura (Jeffrey) Colyer, Louise (William) Snyder, Lisa (Michael) Dudley, Lana (Paul) Dudley, Christina (Tony) Redman, Brian (Janet) Manoukian, Adam (Tara) Manoukian, Matthew Bishara and Andrew Bishara; cousins, Nadeem & Joanne Kenien, David Kenien, Edward Kenien, Clara Bishara, Daniel & Dr. Mary Ann Bishara and Norman & Mary Ann Bishara; close friends, Ron Lonero, Brian and Michelle Bradley. He is also survived by several great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins. William was predeceased by his Aunt Najme (Haick) and Uncle Norman Kenien; Uncle Nick and Aunt Helen (Ashker) Haick and his adored Soft-Coated Wheaton Terrier, Molly.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 5th from 2-4 & 7-9 PM at the M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 Military Road, Niagara Falls, NY, where funeral services will begin on Monday, January 6th at 9:30 AM, followed by a funeral service at 10 AM in St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church, 1073 Saunders Settlement Road, Niagara Falls, NY, with Very Rev. Paul R. Solberg and Very Rev. George R. Aswad officiating. Interment in Riverdale Cemetery, Lewiston, NY. If desired, memorial donations may be made in William's memory to St. George's Antiochian Orthodox Church, Niagara County SPCA, American Heart Association or a charity of one's choice.
