- Donald Hermanson Life story
Donald L. Hermanson, I, 79, of Niagara Falls, NY, passed away on October 8, 2024. Born on October 15, 1944 in Niagara Falls, NY, he was the son of the late Charles W. Hermanson, Sr. and the late June A. (Marsdon) Sandborn and the step-son of the late Debra E.A. Hermanson.
Don was married on July 2, 1971 to Diana L. Sherman. He was the father of Kim M. (Joe) Ebert, Donald L. (Allison) Hermanson, II, Anthony J. (Melissa) Hermanson and Patrick C. (Girlfriend, Janice and her son Josiah Walker) Hermanson; grandfather of Rex, Joshua Deon Michael, Amber, Aiden, Juelz, Nevaeh and Rhianna Hermanson, Zachary DeFranco and Sarah and Daniel Wilksmore; great-grandfather of Lucy, Markie, Shiloh, Paisley Grace and Sullivan Deon and Sydney Jacobs; brother of the late Charles W. (Pat) Hermanson and the late James P. (Pat) Hermanson and step-brother of Suzanne Vollo, late Catherine Smith, late Cynthia Hermanson and Richard Hermanson.
Don most enjoyed being with family for the holidays and was a lifetime Buffalo Bills fan. Don went to Niagara Wheatfield Jr. and Sr. High School leaving in 1963 to join the United States Marine Corps.
Don proudly served in the United States Marine Corps from August of 1963 until his honorable discharge in September of 1967. He took basic training at Paris Island and was then stationed at Camp Lejune. He spent 13 months in Vietnam from April of 1966 until May of 1967, serving as an automotive mechanic and driver, participating in many convoys to different parts of Vietnam with supplies. Don went up the ranks and was awarded many medals. He was stationed in Quantico upon returing to the United States and was then discharged. Don was a member of the New York State Army National Guard in Niagara Falls, the VFW #917 and Niagara Active Hose Volunteer Fire Company’s exempt organization following his dedicated volunteer service there, also serving as their secretary for many years. He was employed by the Radison/Clarion Hotel/Holiday Inn Select on 3rd Street in Niagara Falls before having by-pass surgery in 2001.
All are welcome to gather for visitation on Thursday, October 17th, from 3-7 p.m. at the OTTO REDANZ FUNERAL HOME AND NIAGARA COUNTY CREMATION CARE, 2215 Military Road, Niagara Falls, NY, (716-297-9007), where Don’s funeral service and life celebration, concluding with Military Honors, will follow visitation at 7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial offerings may be made to his family.
