BUFFALO — John Kenneth Smith, age 80, died suddenly in the Buffalo Veterans Hospital on Sunday, October 13, 2013, after a short illness.
John was born in Niagara Falls, NY on February 3, 1933 to Owen Kenneth Smith and Bernice Byrne Smith (both deceased).
He was preceded in death by his sister, Marian Smith Beahen and his brother, C. Earl Smith. He is survived by his sister, Jean Smith Taylor; sister-in-law, Margaret Fratello Smith; 13 nieces and nephews, 24 great and six great-great-nieces and nephews.
John attended Lewiston-Porter High School and served two years in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He held several jobs in the Niagara Falls and Buffalo area. His greatest pleasure was dancing which he did every weekend before he became ill.
During his illness he was lovingly cared for by his constant companion and love of his life, Loretta Hury.
John donated his body to the University of Buffalo. At the request of his family, there will be no visitation.
