Gary Robert Gauda, 13, of
7303 Chestnut Ridge Road,
Town of Lockport, was killed at
5:30 p.m. Thursday when he
was struck by a car while riding
his bicycle near his home.
The bdy, son of Mr. and Mrs.
Howard A. Gauda, was pronounced
dead on arrival at
Lockport Memorial Hospital.
Niagara County Sheriff's Deputies
Edward Fusco and Paul
Baronich reported the driver of
the car was Douglas G. Kelkenberg,
18, of 9126 Hofert Road,
Gasport.
They said that the Kelkenberg
youth told them he was eastbound
on Chestnut Ridge Road,
saw the boy riding his bicycle
in the same direction and pullled
a little to the left to give the
boy plenty of room. However,
the motorist said the boy pulled
right, into the path of the car,
and he was unable to avoid
striking him.
Deputies said the boy's body
struck the windshield of the
car.
When the deputies arrived
Robert Lewis, 17, of 7310 Chestnut
Ridge Road, was administering
mouth - to - mouth resuscitation
to the boy. He is the
son of Dr. and Mrs. R. W. Lewis.
The fatality was the 26th this
year on rural Niagara County
Roads compared to 19 for the
c00|isame period in 1967. The total
fatality list for 1967 was 23.
Gary was born Dec. 27, 1954
in Konmore. His mother is the
former Patricia Machaby.
Before moving to the Chestnut
Ridge address this year,
the family resided on West
Creek Road, Town of Pendleton,
where Gary attended Starpoint
Central School. He entered
eighth grade this month at
North Park Junior High School.
Besides his parents, he is survived
by a brother, Scott Gauda,
at home; his grandparents,
Mrs. Earl Blanchard of Piercefield,
Mrs. Arthur Voelker of
Lavigne, Ont., and Howard Gauda
of Lockport.
Friends may call at the Brunner
Funeral Home, 156 Robinson
St., North Tonawanda,
where prayers will be said Monday
moming, at a time to be
announced.
