LOCKPORT — Howard Mietz, formerly of Lockport, NY, passed away on Saturday, January 28, 2012, after a short illness. Born on November 15, 1924 in Lockport, NY, he was the son of the late Rudolph and Rose Hintz Mietz. He was married to Geraldine Groff Mietz in June 26, 1954, and she passed away December 19, 1999. He was employed as a Test Experimental Technician for Delphi for 30 years, retiring February of 1988. He served in WWII in the Asiatic Pacific Campaign in McArthur headquarters from 1944 to 1946, and achieved T5 rank. He was discharged from service as 795 Military Police December 31, 2006. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, traveling and woodworking, gardening. He was also a member of the Gasport "Jet Set".
He is survived by son, Timothy Mietz; granddaughters, Karrie Mietz of Buffalo and Courtney Mietz of Lockport; and several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by brothers, Ferdinand, Alvin, George; sister, Hazel (Kenneth) Halstead. Also predeceased by a good friend, Dorothy Wall of Lockport.
Friends may call Thursday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM in Prudden and Kandt Funeral Home, 242 Genesee Street, Lockport, where services will be held Friday morning at 11 AM. Interment will be in Cold Spring Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to Blepharospasm Foundation and Research of Beaumont Texas or to a charity of one's choice.
