- Warren L. “Jerry” Broeker, of the Town of Niagara, passed from this earthly life on Friday May 20, 2016 at his residence with his family at his side and while under care of Niagara Hospice. He was born in Niagara Falls, NY on December 1, 1936 the son of the late Roy C. and Vera A. (Hexemer) Broeker.
Jerry was a 1954 graduate of the former LaSalle High School and in 1955 entered Wanakena State Ranger School’s general forestry curriculum graduating in February of 1956. He was employed at Kimberly Clarke for seven months before continuing his Forestry studies at Syracuse University receiving a BSA degree in Forest Management & Forest Engineering, proudly graduating in 1960. During his college studies he was employed doing survey work for Bero Construction & Railroad Waterproofing Company.
Following graduation, Jerry worked in the survey crew for Johnson Drake and Piper, a heavy road contractor. In 1962 he was hired as a surveyor and quantity person with the Herbert F. Darling Engineering & Construction Company and was elevated to Superintendant in 1964, a position in which he held until his retirement in 1999. Six years following his retirement, the Herbert F. Darling Company continued to call Jerry back to assist with his expertise on their major projects during the summer.
Mr. Broeker enlisted and proudly served for six years in the US Army National Guard with the 90th Artillery and later with the 174th Armored Division in Niagara Falls until his honorable discharge in 1966.
On April 15, 1961 he married the former Linda Ann Hepfer and were happily married for over 50 years until her passing in March of 2015.
Survivors include his four sons: Gary (Keith Cohn) of W. Hollywood, CA; Jeff of Monument, CO; Kyle (Maria) of Doylestown, PA and Shaun of Niagara Falls, NY. Grandchildren: Jeff Jr. of the Town of Tonawanda; Shelby (Rob) Donohue of Niagara Falls, NY; Matthew & Gabrielle of Monument, CO and Maxxim & Skyler of Doylestown, PA. a great-grandson Julian of the Town of Tonawanda and a sister Patti Jean (Bill) Shaefer of N. Tonawanda, NY.
Also surviving is Jerry’s good friend and companion Dorothy Sorley who on May 14th of this year entered into and celebrated a Commitment Ceremony. In addition, he will be sadly missed by many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Jerry was a longtime and active member of the First United Methodist Church where he served as Treasurer and at various times a trustee position for 12 years. He also served as a volunteer with the Escort Department and as the Care Van driver at Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center for 14 years. He was an avid enthusiast of all sports however, enjoyed participating in bowling, golf, basketball and softball.
The family will be present Wednesday evening from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M. and Thursday morning from 10 AM to 12 Noon in the LANE FUNERAL HOME, Inc., 8622 Buffalo Avenue, Niagara Falls, NY. Friends are invited to services on Friday at 11 AM in the First United Methodist Church, 8210 Buffalo Avenue, Niagara Falls, NY 14304 with the Rev. Jean Edmister officiating. Private burial committal services will be held in Niagara Falls Memorial Park Cemetery, Town of Lewiston at the convenience of the family.
