Longtime Farmer of Barker
Ronald Edward Hurtgam passed away peacefully at home on March 7, 2015 with his loving wife of 65 years, Wilma (Bayles) Hurtgam, by his side. He was son of Edward and Winfred (Brawn) Hurtgam; predeceased by brother, Mervin Hurtgam; and infant son, David William Hurtgam.
Ronald is survived by seven children, Keith (Darlene) Hurtgam, Kathy Hurtgam Frost, Karen (Bob) Boyle, Karyl (Rich) Miller, Lora (Jeff) Partyka, Michael Hurtgam, Barbara (Tim) Kraus; fourteen grandchildren, Chad (Cathrine) Hurtgam, Amanda (Tom) Detschner, Mathew Hurtgam, Jeff (Debora) Frost, David Frost, Jason (Stacy) Boyle, Derek Boyle, Megan (Andrew) Hyatt, Katie (Noah) Miller, Kim (David) Stoll, Steven and Scott Partyka, Jamie (David) Schwab, Kristina Hurtgam and nineteen great-grandchildren; beloved dogs, Buster, Maggie and Pewee; brothers and sisters-in-law, Jim and Edith Faery, Shirley (Late John) Hartmann, Steve and Sue Bayles and Joyce (Late Bill) Bayles.
Ronald loved to farm and loved his animals. He continued to farm and care for animals up to the last months of his life. He was an adverturous snowmobiler and enjoyed playing Euchre. He loved to tractor pull and ride in his l977 pace car Mustang. He was a member of Masons for 52 years at the Gasport Lodge No. 787. He enjoyed chewing the rag with his friends and fellow farmers. Known for his hard cider and whiskey cherries that he enjoyed sharing with friends. He will be missed but never forgotten by his loving family. Thank you for everything Dad and Grandpa!
Friends and relatives may call on Monday from 6-9 PM at the Bates, Wallace & Heath Funeral Home, 38 State St., Middleport, NY and Tuesday from 10-11 AM at the Hartland United Methodist Church, 8019 Ridge Rd., Gasport, NY, where funeral services will follow at 11:00 AM with the Rev. Cheryl Brown officiating. Burial will be in Hartland Central Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Heart Association, Hartland Methodist Church or the Hartland Fire Department would be appreciated by the Hurtgam family.
