NORTH TONAWANDA - Henry Belstadt "Hank," age 91, passed peacefully at home with his entire family surrounding him. He was born in North Tonawanda, NY on June 15, 1922, the son of the late Paul and Amelia Belstadt. Hank was a WWII Bronze Star and Purple Heart recipient who served in the 14th Armored Division under General Patton. He had a passion for fishing, bowling, horseshoes, pinochle, and could be found at the NT City Market every Saturday morning. He worked for Buffalo Bolt, the Niagara Power Project and Niagara Cutter. He was an active life member of the former St. Paul's Lutheran Church (E. Felton St.) and American Legion Post 264. He was the devoted chef for the entire family, creating a lifelong tradition of cooking authentic Hungarian Sunday dinners.
Survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Elizabeth (Betty) Czerhak. Dearest father of Tim (Evie) Belstadt, Jack (Marie Caputi) Belstadt, Ricky (Linda Green) Belstadt, and Ami (Warren) Greatbatch. Devoted grandfather of eight grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Hank is also survived by four siblings, Louise Harrington, Amalia Forth, Clara Forth and Robert Belstadt. Uncle of many nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Fretthold Funeral Home Inc., 1241 Oliver St. at Ward Rd., in North Tonawanda on Friday from 11 AM to 3 PM. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home beginning at 3 PM, the Rev. Robert Grabau will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Niagara Hospice.
