- June M. (Bongiovanni) Venuto, 93 of Lewiston, NY passed away on September 16, 2016 at Our Lady of Peace Nursing Care Residence. Born in Niagara Falls, NY she was the daughter of the late Francesco and Rosalia (Panepinto) Bongiovanni.
June was a lifelong resident of the area. She attended local schools and graduated from Trott Vocational High School. June served in the United States Marine Corp. as an aircraft mechanic from 1943 until her honorable discharge as a Corporal in 1945. On July 24, 1947, she married Nicholas J. Venuto at St. Joseph’s Church. Mr. Venuto predeceased her on May 25, 1992. June worked at the former International Paper Mill and later, Globar Division of the Carborundum Company. She enjoyed attending her children’s sporting events and was a member of the Mother’s Club of Our Lady of the Rosary School and Bishop Duffy High School. June participated in local bowling leagues and enjoyed playing bingo with her sisters, shopping, going to the casino and John Duke Senior Center. She was an outstanding cook and fabulous baker. June loved spending time with her family and especially adored her grandchildren.
Mrs. Venuto is survived by her three children, Richard N. (Susan) Venuto, Daniel T. (Mary) Venuto and Linda M. Venuto, six grandchildren, Jennifer and Nancy Venuto, Christina (Darryl) Schoonmaker, Julianne Baio, Nicole (Khalid) Abusalah and Joseph (Marcos) Baio, seven great-grandchildren, Ava, Jack, Lily, David, Giovanni, Luciano and Nicholina, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was also predeceased by nine siblings, Margaret (late John) Deuro, Carmen (late Jean) (late Rose) Bongiovanni, Moses Bongiovanni, Lena LaBarber, Philip (Agnes) Bongiovanni, Angeline Bongiovanni, Joseph (late Evelyn) Bongiovanni, Mary (late James) Murphy, Benjamin (late Edith) (late Angie) Bongiovanni, and two nieces, Rosalie (late Joseph) Buffone and Carrie (late Roman) Szalach.
Visitation will be held on Sunday from 3-6 pm at
M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 MILITARY ROAD, NIAGARA FALLS, NY where funeral services will begin on Monday at 9:15 am followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am at Holy Family Parish at St. Joseph’s Church 1413 Pine Ave. Niagara Falls. Interment with Military Honors in Gate of Heaven Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital PO Box 1000 Dept. 142 Memphis, TN 38101.
