MELCHER - Merle R. Sr., of
31 Pennsylvania Ave., died suddenly
Monday, Oct. 14, 1968, at
his late residence. He is survived
by nine daughters and five
sons, Mrs. Lester (Alfreda)
Hatch, Mrs. James (Nancy)
Tagg, Miss Bessie Melcher,
Mrs. Paul (Sara) Pichey,
Charles Melcher, James Melcher,
Merle Melcher Jr., Robert
Howard, and Mrs. Elger (Liz)
Boissenin, all of Lockport; Mrs.
Carl (Effie) Beiter, Newfane;
Mrs. Jack (Laura) White, Pittsburgh,
Penna.; Mrs. Frank
(Shirley) Page, Niagara Falls;
Willis Melcher, Marion, N. Y.;
and Mrs. Margaret Walker,
Blasdale, N.Y.; also survived
by 41 grandchildren and seven
great - grandchildren. Friends
may call from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.
at the Gaul Funeral Home Inc.,
263 East Ave., where, the funeral
will be held Wednesday at 2
p.m. Interment will be at Cold
Spring Cemetery.

Merle R. Melcher Sr., 66, of
31 Pennsylvania Ave., a retired
engineer at Niagara County
Fruit Co., died unexpectedly
this morning (Oct. 14, 1968) at
his home.
The fire department rescue
squad was called at 8:16 a.m.,
but reported Mr. Melcher was
dead when they arrived.
Born Jan. 5, 1902 in Wilson,
he was the husband of the late
Margaret Bootes Melcher, who
died in 1951.
Mr. Melcher was employed
for 35 years at the Niagara
County Fruit Co. and retired in
1964. He had been a rural route
carrier for the Buffalo Courier-
Express until the time of his
death.
He is survived by nine daughters
and five sons, Mrs. Lester
(Alfreda) Hatch, Mrs. James
(Nancy) Tagg, Miss Bessie Mel
cher, Mrs. Paul (Sara) Pichey,
Mrs. Elger (Liz) Boissenin,
Charles, James, Merle Jr., and
Robert Howard Melcher, all of
Lockport, Mrs. Carl (Effie) Beiter
of Newfane, Mrs. Jack (Laura)
White of Pittsburgh, Mrs.
Frank (Shirley) Page of Niagara
Falls, Willis Melcher of Marion
and Mrs. Margaret Walker
of Blasdell; also 41 grandchildren
and seven great-grandc
ildren.
Friends may call from 2 to 4
and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Gaul Funeral
Home Inc., 263 East Ave.,
where the funeral will be held
at 2 p.m. Wednesday. The Rev.
Robert H. Rowsam, pastor of
Emmanuel United Methodist
Church, will officiate.
Burial will be in Cold Spring
Cemetery.
