- Helen Louise Reid
Our angel, born Helen Louise Perry on Christmas Eve, 1932, has left us this September 25th. Helen told great stories of living above her dad Gene’s grocery store with her sister Mary Anne (Chille), before moving into their home on Niagara Avenue. Including the story of a Christmas tree being launched out the window by her mom Marie. “Did you ever have that baby?” the pastor asked Helen sometime during the six years that she delivered five children. Life with her husband “Big Jim” Reid and sons Marty (Michele), Chris (Donna), Jim, Jr. (Judy), Eugene (Hannah) and daughter Mary Lucia (Tom Siegrist) was filled with love, laughter and often Helen breaking into song. Their home was known as the “Boys Club,” as all were welcome. All her 10 grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews loved her vibrant, cheerful nature and sometimes tongue-in-cheek humor and advice. She was great grandmother to nine. The family remembers family trips and great times with neighborhood and long time friends, and her enjoyment working at Niagara University. “Say watch over me!” Is a favorite saying Helen called to family or friends as they walked out the door and then whispered a prayer to the Blessed Mother for their own safety. How lucky to be loved by such a charming and mischievous angel.
Her family will be present on Friday from 3-7 PM at the RHONEY FUNERAL HOME, 901 Cayuga Street, LEWISTON, NY.
Everyone is invited to attend her Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday at 10:00 AM at Alumni Chapel at Niagara University.
Flowers are gratefully declined. Memorials may be made in her name to Niagara Hospice.
Inurnment in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Lewiston, NY.
