Mrs. Gladys Irene Cooper, 72, of
Messenger Road, died Tuesday
morning, Oct. 30, 1962, In her
home. She had been in poor
health for nearly 15 years.
She was born Nov. 17, 1889. in
the Town of Randolph, a daughter
of Otis and Hatie Thomas Bowen.
The Bowen family settled in the
Sample Hill area of the town in
the early 1800s.
was married to Orlow
Cooper, who survives. She had
lived is Washington, D. C, before
she ssoved to the village 17 year*
age. In Washington, she was employed
as a stenographer and as
editor of the Atlantic Union
Gleaner, a denominational publica-
tion. She was a member of the
Randolph Seventh Day Adventist
Church.
In addition to her husband she
is survived by a brother, Ruland
Bowen, of Collegedale, Tenn.
Funeral services were held at
2 p.m. Thursday at the Randolph
Seventh Day Adventist Church
with Elder Douglas Logan of-
ficiating. Burial was in the Sample
Hill Cemetery. Myers Funeral
Home was in charge of arrange-
ments.
