  Lockport NY Union Sun Journal - 12/17/1957 BARKER - A resident of tho Town of Somerset for 70 yoars. George H. Meland. 79 died Mon- day (Dec. 16, 1957) at his home. W. Somerset Rd.. following an ill- ness of about two years. Born is St, Paul. Minn., Feb. 23 . 1878. he was the son of Carles and Minnie Meland and came to the Town of Somerset with his family when a youngster. He married the former Ethel Bowers. Barker, who survives. Mr. Meland farmed in the Somerset area, residing on his W. Somerset Rd. home for the past 40 years. He also was employed at the Barker Cold Storage before his retirement. Survivors besides his wife, include two sons, Charles a nd George, both of Barker; three grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Martha Ticknor, E. Orange, N. J., and Mrs. Anna Nickerson, South Hadley, Mass.: one brother, Earl Borland, East Orange, and several nieces and nephews. Friends may call at the Hood Funeral Home, Barker, from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 where services will be held Thursday at 2. Burial will be in Somerset Cemetery.
