- LaVern A. “Lefty” Bowman, Jr, 89, of Niagara Falls, NY passed away Wednesday, November 25, 2015 at Elderwood at Wheatfield Health Care Facility in Wheatfield, NY. Born in Niagara Falls, NY he was the son of the late Lavern A. and Florence (Hiller) Bowman, Sr.
Lefty, as he was known by his family and friends was raised and educated in Ransomville, NY. He was a staff Sergeant for the United Stated Army during WWII and was honorably discharged in 1946. Mr. Bowman married his wife of 66 years, Rosalie (Cosimano) Bowman on September 17, 1949 at St. Joseph Church, Niagara Falls, NY. He worked at Olin Chemical, Niagara Falls, NY and retired as a Millwright Foreman.
Lefty was an avid sportsman and was a past member of the LaSalle Sportsman Club. His greatest joy was spending time with his family.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Bowman is survived by his three children; LaVern A. (Martha) Bowman, III, Kevin (Pamela) Bowman and Cyndi (Dominic) Luna. Four grandchildren, Jennifer (Duane) Jacobs, Kelli (Mathew Gomesky) Luna, Michael Luna and Andrea (Ricky) DeFino. Two great-grandchildren Zachary and Lauren Jacobs. One brother Richard (Late Mary) Bowman and two sisters, Sandra (Richard) Alessi and Gwendolyn (Dennis) Kearney, A dear Aunt, Clara Hildebrandt and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by three brothers, John (Lillian of Pennsylvania) Bowman, Calvin (Marlene of Florida) Bowman, Robert (Linda of Corfu, NY) Bowman and two sisters, Jeanette (Late Clifford) Geist and Peggy Bowman.
There will be no prior visitation. Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, December 1st at 10:00 a.m. at the M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 MILITARY ROAD, NIAGARA FALLS, NY. Burial will follow with Military Honors at St. Joseph Cemetery, Niagara Falls, NY.
