An active participant in and
founder of sport leagues in Lock
port, W. Richard Turner, 73, of 73
East Ave., died Tuesday (Sept.
4, 1962) at Veteran's Hospital
Buffalo, after a long illness.
During his younger years. Mr
Turner actively participated in
the basketball leagues at the
YMCA. He was one of the found
ers and an early president of the
United Church Bowling League
and president of the first Lockport
Softball League.
Born In Lockport, June 4, 1889
son of Joseph W. and Harriet
Coulson Turner Jr.. he was employed
for 25 years at the former
Niagara County National Bank
and Trust Co., and later was associated
with his father in the
Turner Fuel Company.
A veteran of World War I in
the U.S. Navy, he was once one of
the best known younger businessmen
of Lockport.
Mr. Turner is survived by one
sister. Miss E. Louise Turner;
two brothers, G. Coulson and Joseph,
all of Lockport; also several
nieces and nephews.
Friends may call from 2 to 4
and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Prudden and
Kandt Funeral Home, 242 Genesee
St., where services will be
held Friday at 10:30 a.m. The Rev
George Dickson will officiate
Burial will be in Cold Spring
Cemetery.
