Ruth Byrdeen (Stear) Fetterhoff, longtime resident of Niagara Falls, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 5, 2014 at Our Lady of Peace Nursing Care Residence in Lewiston. She was 96. She was born in Smicksburg, PA on November 9, 1917, a daughter of the late Charles Henry and Anna Margaret (Irwin) Stear.
She attended Pennsylvania schools and graduated from Plumville High School in Plumville, PA. She married Otto G. Fetterhoff in 1937, moved to Niagara Falls in 1947 and they remained happily married for 56 years until his passing in 1994.
Mrs. Fetterhoff worked as a cashier at Loblaw's, Slipko's and finally for LaSalle Senior High School when it opened in 1958. Ruth was a kind, sweet, compassionate person to everyone she encountered and was a devoted and loving homemaker to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be missed by all that loved her.
She is survived by three children, Otto "George" (Carolyn) Fetterhoff, Jr. of Sanborn, Margaret Ann Fetterhoff of Texas, and Donald (Helma) Fetterhoff of Florida. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her daughter, Laura L. Kitchen; and several brothers and sisters.
Friends may call at the LANE FUNERAL HOME, INC., 8622 Buffalo Avenue on Thursday from 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM, where funeral services will be held on Friday at 10 AM with pastor Jean Edmister officiating. Burial will be in Acacia Park Cemetery in the Town of Pendleton. If desired, donations may be made in Mrs. Fetterhoff's name to Niagara Hospice House, 4675 Sunset Drive, Lockport, NY 14094.
