- Fred Silver of Lewiston, NY, passed away on Tuesday, October 8, 2019, at his home. He was born in Creighton Mine, Ontario, on July 23, 1945, the son of the late Ronald and Muriel [Rumball] Silver.
Fred graduated from Clarkson University with an engineering degree and his MBA. After moving to Lewiston in 1969, he started at Carborudum as a senior engineer and later became the company's president for many years.
Fred was one of the areas finest golfers, winning the Buffalo District Golf Association championship five times and the Niagara Falls Country Club Championship 29 times, along with the Super-Senior Porter Cup in 2012. Fred was involved with the Porter Cup and helped start the Senior Porter Cup and the Women's Porter Cup. He was inducted into the Greater Buffalo Sports Hall of Fame in 2003.
Fred is survived by his wife of 51 years Connie [Falzetta] Silver, one son David (fiancee Meredith Phelps) Sliver, three daughters Dena (Jake) Upton, Carolyn (Nick) Taluja and Julie (Christian Campos) Silver, two brothers Ron (Joan) and Mike (Marg) Silver, a sister Dale (John Secenj) Milburn and a sister in law Leigh Silver, he is also survived by 10 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by one grand daughter and a brother Tim Silver.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at 9:30 AM at St. Peter's Church, 620 Center Street, Lewiston, NY, following the mass, his family will be present on Friday from 3-8 PM at the RHONEY FUNERAL HOME, 901 Cayuga Street, LEWISTON, NY.
Flowers are gratefully declined. Memorials may be made in his name to the Niagara Falls Boys & Girls Club, 725 17th Street, Niagara Falls, NY 14301.
